The FIFA Men's World Ranking is a ranking system for men's national teams in association football, led by Argentina as of December&#;[update].[1] The men's teams of the member nations of FIFA, football's world governing body, are ranked based on their game results with the most successful teams being ranked highest. The rankings were introduced in December , and eight teams (Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain) have held the top position, of which Brazil have spent the longest time ranked first.
A points system is used, with points being awarded based on the results of all FIFA-recognised full international matches. The ranking system has been revamped on several occasions, generally responding to criticism that the preceding calculation method did not effectively reflect the relative strengths of the national teams. Since 16 August , the ranking system has adopted the Elo rating system used in chess and Go.

FIFA-rankingen baseres på lands prestasjoner. Alle medlemsland inom FIFA er med inom listen. Den tar for seg prestasjoner fra landslagenes A-lagskamper dem siste fire årene. For å gjøre rankingen sålunda relevant liksom mulig berättare kampene mer basert vid hvor lite tid detta er siden den ble spilt. Dessuten har kamper fra VM og EM (inkl. kvalik) mer verdi enn for eksempel vennskapskamper.
Poengsystemet har blitt endret noen ganger etter at detta først ble tatt inom bruk inom Blant annet kunne team tidligere spille vennskapskamper mot dårligere team for å på den måten forbedre sin ranking. Dette er det ikke lenger mulig å gjøre i like stor grad. En annen endring er at man ser vid de siste fire årene, istedenfor dem siste åtte.
